(Generated by AI) "With the emergence of the Internet and the introduction of software robots into our daily lives, there has been a proliferation of tools and technologies that help us connect with one another. However, there has also been a parallel increase in the complexity of our work tasks, to the point where many activities previously managed by people are being automated by computers. This automation has different effects on different people in our society. For some people it is not a concern at all. For others, it's not without controversy. What concerns me most is the impact of artificial intelligence on our lives. The impact it can have on our ability to understand and recognize the emotional, psychological, and social dimensions of the people around us and on the time we devote to the activities that we do for ourselves, with ourselves, and for others."

about

Spectra is a deep dive into mankind's relationship with Earth. Every track symbolizes different elements of the evolving, and often abusive, relationship. Most of the abuse is caused by industrialization - waste is dumped in the air and water, natural resources are treated as they were unlimited and exponential growth and development is the status quo. Do we have enough will, intelligence and creativity to change ourselves to make our relationship with Earth healthy again? Do doomsday scenarios just make us cynical? Do utopian dreams just make us blind? I guess there are only abstract answers...

I experimented with different ways to make sound in this project. One of them is creating sound from molecules! I downloaded FTIR spectra of different molecules from different universities' websites, pitched them down 36 octaves (multiplied every frequency by 2^-36 in Excel) and then played all frequencies as sine waves with the Klang function in SuperCollider. Interferences of the waves can be heard as rhythms, which was a very interesting discovery!

The project was funded by Taike (Taiteen edistämiskeskus). A million thanks! 💚
